Learning to Look After Yourself Again

tumblr_mhd7umjlIR1qc4uvwo1_400Hi everyone and welcome back to my blog! This post is a little different to what I usually write about because I’m going to be sharing a personal experience of a recent break up.

In October, my long-term relationship very sadly came to an end and now 6 months later, I finally feel ready to share my thoughts and reflections on what I’ve learnt about relationships and how to look after yourself when they come to an end.

  1. Give yourself time to process

When a relationship comes to an end, I think it’s important to allow yourself some time over the days that follow to process what has happened. It doesn’t have to be a really long time, it could just be going for a walk, having a bubble bath or doing anything that gives you some alone time. I personally feel like I need to do this to understand how I feel first before I can reach out to friends and family to talk through some of those emotions.

  1. Always put yourself first

This may sound like a no-brainer, but I think it’s really easy to lose sight of your goals when there is someone you love in the picture. After a break-up, there’s nothing wrong with just taking a break from your friends or other social commitments and spending some time focusing on getting yourself back on track to where you want to be. Everyone will understand!

  1. It’s okay not to be okay

It’s destructive to tell ourselves things like “I should be over this by now” or “I should be handling this better” because it’s painful when relationships come to an end and you shouldn’t beat yourself up for feeling sad about it. It’s healthy to cry as much as you need to so don’t hold back!

  1. Keep yourself busy

After a break up, I think it’s important to keep your mind occupied because feeling bored can make you miss your ex-partner even more. Don’t forget that a relationship takes up a huge amount of time in your day-to-day life, so your schedule might feel a little more empty than it used to, but this doesn’t have to be a bad thing. It could just mean that you have more time for things you may not of before, so use the opportunity to try a new hobby like writing a blog for instance!

  1. A fresh start

When you feel like you’ve started to move on, a fresh start can help you start to feel some closure. You could do this by joining a gym, applying for a new job or redecorating your home. This creates a new chapter where you can being to build exciting, new memories.

3 Steps Towards a Happier Life

tumblr_mg2ywvGIWy1qc4uvwo1_500Hi everyone and welcome back to my blog! In this post, I’m going to share what I believe are 3 steps towards living a happier life.

1. Love yourself

The only person that can make you happy is you and life is too short not to do what you love. I think that too many people go through life without ticking anything off their bucket list. If you don’t have a good enough reason to put off travelling to a new country or taking up a new hobby then it’s never to late to make it happen!

2. Moving on

Just like hair, people are always growing and it’s okay to trim off the dead ends when you feel like you have outgrown them. Everyone is growing and changing at different rates, so you can’t expect to always be compatible with the same situation throughout your life. Whether it’s a friendship or a relationship, people grow apart and I think it’s important to remember that letting go may create space for something better.

3. Balance

Family, dreams, love, work, friends, money, everyone has so much going on! I think happiness is finding a balance and not allowing one aspect of your life to over power the others. Of course, sometimes one part of your life will need to be prioritised and sometimes to lose the harmony completely is all part of living a balanced life.
